Yesterday was officially the first day of fall! As the air turns crisp and the leaves begin to change, we all know what time it is - Halloween season is upon us! Fall is perhaps my favorite time of year and I am usually chomping at the bit by September 1st to get my Halloween decorations up... (yes, I know it's early!) From whimsical pumpkins, endlessly tangled cobwebs, and delightfully corny lawn inflatables, there's something about Halloween decorations that never fails to bring a smile to my face. I truly love all aesthetics of Halloween and Fall, whether it's uber cheesy and colorful, or soft and sophisticated. But for a lot of us, it can be hard to strike a balance without taking over your home completely and keeping it stylish. So here are some of my favorite tips and tricks, as well as some Studio Molina approved spooky season décor.
1. Pick Your Moments
While I appreciate all types of Halloween décor, I understand that for some it's important to find a balance so that your home doesn't end up looking like a haunted house (major emphasis on some! I cannot stress enough that I am a lover of all spooky aesthetics). Choosing to focus your décor into a few key areas of your home is a great way make an impact. A few ideas could be an entry credenza, fireplace hearth/mantle, dining table centerpiece, hutch or curio cabinet. You can then use more subtle décor throughout the rest of your home such as adhesive bats (a personal favorite).

2. Consistency is Key
One way to infuse your home with a touch of Halloween charm without going overboard is to work within a color pallet. You might opt for something neutral with browns, tans, and creams, or you might want to do dark and moody and pick black, and dark wine tones. Choose to use your accent colors in small areas. Think velvet pumpkins in deep, rich hues, elegant wreaths adorned with subtle hints of orange, or pillows that have pops of dark purple. Whatever your preference, try to stick within that color theme of 1-2 accent colors paired with neutrals.
4. Spooky Textures
Adding layers of texture can enhance the visual interest of your décor. Try draping spooky cheesecloth over surfaces before you style your décor on top. Introduce natural elements like branches, leaves, moss, or dried flowers to bring a fresh and organic texture to your space. Incorporate pieces of aged metal to add depth and warmth.
6. Illuminating Ambiance
Finally, don't underestimate the power of lighting when setting the mood for a chic Halloween ambiance. Dim your overhead lights and opt for candles in stylish candelabras or modern lanterns to create a soft, eerie glow that will enchant all who enter your home. For the last few years, I have been filling my home with "floating candles" that I hang from the ceiling at varied heights and are remote controlled.
